Out of nowhere, the printer is aborting all my print jobs with a paper mismatch error. I already restored the printer, and checked the settings that they all match paper A4, which is the one I am using. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the HP smart app.
Then, I tried printing with the phone or make a copy, and it seems to me like somehow the printer is not identifying the correct paper size, but it is somehow assuming it is the one configured as "small".
I tried changing the configuration of small to A4, but it is unfortunately not possible, and also the automatic paper detection setting I cannot deactivate.
The printer is around 3 months old, so this is enfuriating.

Hi @Nachdlt,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The paper mismatch error on your HP 5105 printer can indeed be frustrating. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue.
Check Paper Tray Settings:
- Ensure that the paper guides in the paper tray are set correctly to the A4 size.
- Remove the paper and reinsert it, making sure it’s properly aligned with the guides.
Verify Printer Settings:
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to the Setup menu.
- Select Paper Setup and ensure the paper size is set to A4.
- If there’s an option for Automatic Paper Detection, try turning it off if possible.
Update Firmware:
- Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve such issues.
- You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the HP website.
Check Printer Drivers:
- Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer.
- Go to the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your HP 5105 printer.
Reset Printer Settings:
- Perform a factory reset on the printer. This can sometimes resolve configuration issues.
- Refer to the printer manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
Clean Printer Sensors:
- Dust or debris on the paper sensors can cause detection issues. Open the printer and gently clean the sensors with a dry cloth.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
