That didn't solve the problem but helped me discover the it. The rollers that pick up and feed the paper are not feeding the paper. I don't need any further assistance and appreciate your response.

Hi @e4help,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with the paper width guide stuck on your printer.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.
Please follow the below steps to fix the issue.
1. Perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
2. Inspect for Obstructions
- Check the paper tray carefully for any debris, jammed paper, or foreign objects that might be blocking the guide.
- Remove any paper in the tray to get a better view of the mechanism.
3. Gently Move the Guide
- Apply light pressure to the guide to see if it will move. Sometimes, the guide can get stuck due to stiffness or misalignment.
- Be cautious not to force it too hard, as this could damage the mechanism.
4. Inspect the Guide Mechanism
- Look at the guide’s tracks to ensure they are clean and free of dust or dirt.
- Use a flashlight if needed to check for any visible damage or misalignment.
5. Clean the Tracks
- If there’s dirt or sticky residue, clean the tracks with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol.
6. Check for Locking Mechanism
- Some printers have a locking tab or mechanism that secures the guide in place. Verify if such a feature is present and ensure it’s not engaged.
7. Reassemble and Test
- After inspecting and cleaning, try moving the guide again. Load paper and check if the guide now adjusts properly.

Thanks. I was able to move the guides. However, the real problem is that the rollers won't load a sheet of paper for printing. I unplugged the power cord from the wall and printer, plugged them back and the printer started up as it should. I loaded about 20 sheets of paper and checked the settings for paper size and portrait orientation. Using the control panel on the printer I selected setup and reports then printer status to print a test page which did not print. I tried several times and watched the page feed rollers to see if they were making contact and rolling to feed the sheet of paper for printing. They never moved the sheet of paper.
