ALTERNATIVE WORKAROUND THAT WORKS!

I appreciate your comments.  I have spent so many hours  working on the problem you are describing.   Wasted all the time following HP suppport recommendations, which as you are well aware, do not work.  I've found the lack of support on this from HP to be extremely disappointing.

In addition to the option of Saving As pdf, or   (What I usually do, as I am using Word 2002), is printing to Bullzip printer driver.   I have Word 2010 installed, but rarely, rarely use it.  Word 2002 was part of the Office XP suite, which was the "high water mark" of Microsoft Office products, before they started getting stupidified.)

PRINT FROM LIBREOFFICE WRITER.

If you open the same .doc or .docx file in LibreOffice, it will print just as shown on the Print Preview.   I wish I could switch to LibreOffice completely, but I've found it too frustrating, not knowing how to easily do the things that are "second nature" to me now in Word 2002.

I also have an HP OfficeJet 6978.   Whatever is the problem with mis-sizing the embedded graphics, apparently no one at HP cares aboutt fixing it......   NOR do they even care to inform their tech support people about it, so they won't waste people's time with worthless activities, such as uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, etc. etc.

.   Either way, it shows no respect for, or concern for the customer.
