I'm having the issue that seems to be prevalent in these machines.  At startup (and beyond) the printer seems to be calibrating; but stops abruptly with the "Photo Tray Problem" error message.  I've had this printer for about a  year and hardly use it because my husband and I both travel extensively for work.  But I'm working from home for a week and I need this printer.  I've tried all the potential fixes posted here and on Google but nothing is working.

PLEASE HELP?!

Hi @JaanaMama,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Envy Inspire 7900e printer, having the "Photo Tray Problem" error ability to engage or position the photo tray correctly. Here are several steps you can try to resolve this issue:

  1. Check the Photo Tray Position:
    • Make sure the photo tray is properly seated in the main paper tray slot. It should click into place.
    • Ensure that no misalignment or obstruction is preventing the tray from moving freely.

  2. Clear Any Paper Jams:

    • Check for any paper jams or debris in the printer that could be causing the error. Carefully remove any foreign objects or paper.

  3. Reset the Printer:

    • Try performing a printer reset. Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and start the printer again.

  4. Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates by visiting the HP support website https://support.hp.com/us-en. and entering your printer model.

  5. Check the Printer Settings: Ensure that the printer settings on your device are configured correctly for the photo tray. Sometimes, settings can default to incorrect paper sources.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
