PhotoSmart 8450
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Print and Scan Doctor says "X  Port Match"  and  "Wrong printer port Configured"  but the utility states it cannot fix it.  I've removed drivers, reinstalled HP latest ones etc etc.    I can see others have had this problem but nobody appears to have fixed it.

I suspect a Windows 10 update because I've been running W10 64 bit for a few years and the printer has worked fine until now.  Standalone, the printer prints a test page perfectly.  Also, W10 recognises the printer correctly and (for example) Word allows Print to execute, only for the document immediately to enter the print queue in error status.

@VulcanXR, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right-click the printer and left-click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:

Create & Use TCP IP port

Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)

Once you have created the port, delete the rest of the ports.

Hope this helps!

The 8450 is a USB connection device and doesn't 'speak' TCP/IP. It has no IP address, therefore.

I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:

1) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2) Select your HP Printer

3) Select Uninstall

4) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’

6) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.

7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe”

😎 Click on the “Drivers” tab

9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10) Select Ok

11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12) Close Devices and Printers.

Download and install the full-featured software from here

No, this does not work.

The Print & Scan Doctor knows the problem is the Port but doesn't fix it.

From other posts re other HP printers with the same USB printing issue, it's clear this is symptomatic of a long-standing  HP problem that remains unfixed. HP need to find the root cause of the driver/port problem and deliver the fix through Print & Scan Doctor
