Prinitng in Black issue

Photosmart 7910 5510
Microsoft Windows XP

I have 2 HP printers photosmart 7960 and 5510. Both connected to Compaq laptop (still running XP). Neither will print in black. One of the printers has new cartridges  $$$$. Color works fine on both. Since the issue is with 2 printers I am thinking it is a software issue. Any suggestions ?

@dmurad, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

Try making a standalone copy in black and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

 

Check the ink levels to make sure the printer reads the black ink cartridge.

 

Go to setup > print a print quality page and check for black.

If the printer is not able to make a copy in black and the print quality page does not have black, this is a hardware issue.

Try cleaning the ink cartridges.

Both printers "read" the black ink cartridge. They show the ink level. The print heads on the 5510 have been cleaned . The 5510 has a new black cartridge. When printing a test page for quality, neither printer prints black.

This could be a hardware issue with the printer or the black ink cartridge as the print quality and copies are not printed in black.

 

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.
