HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

The printer was shut off during a large print job and now the "print cartridge cannot move." The cartridge is on the far right when I look at the printer.

I have gone through all the troubleshooting steps without changing the situation.

Hi @Peppy43,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the "Print Cartridge Cannot Move" error persists despite troubleshooting, it may indicate that something is obstructing the print cartridge or there’s an issue with the mechanism that moves it. Here are some additional steps you can try.

Unclog the Print Carriage Path:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the printer's access door where the cartridges are located.
  • Gently move the cartridge carriage back and forth by hand. Do this slowly to see if there’s any resistance, which could indicate an obstruction.
  • Check for paper or debris blocking the path or jamming the cartridges. If you find any, carefully remove it.

Check for Cartridge Misalignment:

  • Ensure the cartridge is properly seated in its slot. If the cartridge is not installed correctly, it might be causing the mechanism to lock.
  • Remove the cartridge and carefully reinstall it.

Reset the Printer:

  • With the printer unplugged, press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on to see if the issue resolves.

Inspect for Hardware Issues:

  • If the carriage still doesn’t move, check if there’s any visible damage to the carriage motor or mechanism.
  • It could be that the motor or gears that move the carriage are stuck or malfunctioning.

Check for Firmware Update:

  • If your printer has the ability to connect to WiFi, check if a firmware update is available. Sometimes, firmware issues can cause unusual behavior.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
