Hi @BB1172,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error code Oxc19a0015 for your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer typically indicates an issue with the printhead. This can be due to clogs, electrical connection issues, or a hardware failure in the printhead assembly. Here are steps you can follow to resolve this.
Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable from the back.
- Wait 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cable and turn the printer back on.
- Check if the error persists.
Clean the Printhead Contacts
- Open the printer to access the printhead.
- Remove the ink cartridges and carefully lift the printhead out (refer to the user manual if necessary).
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to clean:
- The electrical contacts on the printhead (gold or copper-colored pins).
- The contacts inside the printer where the printhead connects.
- Allow everything to dry for 5–10 minutes before reinserting the printhead and cartridges.
Reinstall or Replace Ink Cartridges
- Ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges.
- Remove and reinstall the cartridges to ensure proper seating.
- Replace any damaged or empty cartridges.
Run a Printhead Cleaning (via Printer Software)
If the error is cleared, use the HP Printer Assistant software or the printer's control panel to run a printhead cleaning cycle:
- Go to Settings > Tools > Clean Printhead.
Perform a Printhead Replacement
If cleaning does not resolve the issue:
- Contact HP Support to order a replacement printhead if your printer is under warranty.
- If out of warranty, consider the cost of replacing the printhead versus purchasing a new printer.
Update Printer Firmware
Outdated firmware can sometimes cause errors:
- Visit HP Support and search for the latest firmware for your printer model.
- Follow the instructions to download and install updates.
Reset to Factory Settings
- On the printer's touchscreen, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
- Confirm the reset and check if the issue persists.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
