HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M183fw

When I print, the preview looks like what I want to have printed, but in actual fact the print comes out with every thing shifted way to the right with have of the document not visible.  I have checked all the settings and paper selections options as well as uninstall the printer and reinstall without any change. HELP!

Hi @geigegal,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with the print quality.

If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M183fw is printing documents with everything shifted to the right, causing half of the document to be missing, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer Settings

Verify Paper Size:

  • Go to the printer’s control panel or the printer settings on your computer.
  • Ensure the paper size selected matches the actual paper loaded in the printer.

Check for Scaling or Margins:

  • Open the print dialog from the application you’re printing from.
  • Look for options like Scaling, Fit to Page, or Margins. Ensure these settings are correctly configured.

2. Update or Reinstall Printer Driver

Download the Latest Driver:

  • Visit the HP Support website.
  • Search for your printer model and download the latest driver compatible with your operating system.

Reinstall the Printer Driver:

  • Uninstall the existing printer driver from Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Reinstall the new driver by running the downloaded installer.

3. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Update Printer Firmware:
    • Go to the HP Support website and check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer model.
    • Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

4. Adjust Print Settings in the Application

  • Application Print Settings:
    • When printing from applications like Word or Adobe Reader, check the Print Setup or Page Setup settings.
    • Ensure that settings like Page Scaling, Orientation, and Margins are correctly set to match your document and paper size.

5. Check Printer’s Calibration and Alignment

  • Run Printer Calibration:
    • Access the printer’s control panel and look for calibration or alignment options.
    • Follow the prompts to run a calibration process to ensure the printer is properly aligned.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @geigegal,

Please find the remaining steps below.

6. Inspect and Adjust Paper Loading

  • Check Paper Tray:
    • Make sure the paper is properly aligned in the paper tray.
    • Adjust the paper guides to fit the paper size precisely.

7. Test with Different Software

  • Try Printing from Another Program:
    • Sometimes, the issue could be related to the specific application you’re using. Test printing from a different application to see if the problem persists.

8. Reset Printer Settings

  • Perform a Factory Reset:
    • On the printer’s control panel, look for the option to reset the printer to its factory settings.
    • This can sometimes resolve issues related to incorrect settings or configurations.

9. Check for Physical Issues

  • Inspect for Paper Jams or Obstructions:
    • Ensure there are no paper jams or foreign objects inside the printer that could affect the printing process.

I updated the Firmware, but if I go to this specific Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M183fw, it tells me to Install the HP Smart app which I have done and really don't like. When I try to use it and select a document to be printed, it goes to preview and just sits there as a white page until it says, "Unable to read document."  The print option that comes up when I say as for a document to be printed, is what I have always used, except that now it still only prints half the page with the right margin in the middle.  I have checked EVERYTHING and after several days, am understandably frustrated.  I am using an iMac that is 3 years old and the printer was bought in the same time frame.

Thanks
