@Missmj28, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your Deskjet 4100 printer that says "blocked"!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer shows a "Blocked" message, especially when you know the cartridge still has ink. Let's try a few steps to troubleshoot this and get your printer back to working normally:

Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check the Cartridge Placement

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the color cartridge and check for any protective tape that might still be attached.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly and ensure it clicks into place.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Take out the color cartridge and gently clean the metal contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Let it dry for a few minutes before putting it back in.

Run a Cartridge Alignment

  • From the printer control panel or the HP Smart app, try running a cartridge alignment. This can help the printer recognize the cartridge properly.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for any available firmware updates through the HP Smart app or the HP website.

Let me know how this goes!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
