HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have tried all the solutions that I came across on the internet for this issue but nothing works, I have reset the printer several times, I have checked printer settings multiple times and it is set to letter size paper and the paper I put in the tray is also letter size but the issue persists and whenever I try to print anything "E1" error comes up and printer cannot print anything.  When I press the cancel button (red x) it spits out a blank sheet. the only time it can print anything is when I photocopy a document manually by placing a document on the scanner and pressing the photocopy button.

Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

The E1 error on your HP ENVY 6055e typically indicates a paper size mismatch between the print job settings and the paper loaded in the tray. Since you've already verified that the paper is Letter size and the printer settings reflect that, let's go through a few deeper troubleshooting steps to resolve this:

1. Check Print Settings in Windows

Sometimes the print job settings override the printer defaults.

  • Open the document you're trying to print.
  • Go to File > Print > Printer Properties.
  • Under Paper/Quality or Advanced, ensure:
    • Paper Size is set to Letter (8.5 x 11 inches).
    • Source is set to Main Tray.
  • Click OK and try printing again.

2. Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver

Corrupt or outdated drivers can cause communication issues.

  • Uninstall the printer from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Download and install the latest HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store or HP Smart for Windows.
  • Re-add the printer using HP Smart and allow it to install the correct drivers.

3. Reset the Printer Again (Full Reset)

You mentioned resetting the printer, but let's ensure it's a full reset:

  • With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power it on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before trying to print again.

4. Check Paper Tray and Sensors

  • Remove all paper from the tray.
  • Fan the stack and reload it neatly.
  • Make sure the paper guides are snug but not tight.
  • Check for any debris or dust inside the tray that might block sensors.

5. Try Printing a Test Page

This helps isolate whether the issue is with the printer or the computer.

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your HP ENVY 6055e > Printer Properties > Print Test Page.

Good day,

I have tried all the options mentioned, and none has solved the problem.  When I attempted to print a test page, it does not print, but instead stops and again flashes E then 1 with the red x.

Then after 2 - 3 minutes, I ger a Print error message:  The printer couldn't print test page.  Meanwhile the error is still being displayed.  after touching the red x, the printer spits out a blank page.
