Hi @WaverlySchool ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're seeing a "Printer Failure" message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 (N911a), it could indicate a hardware issue or an internal problem with the printer. Here are steps you can try to resolve this issue:
1. Reset the Printer
- Turn the printer off.
- Unplug it from the power source and wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
2. Check Ink Cartridges
- Open the ink cartridge access door, remove each cartridge, and inspect them for any damage.
- Clean the contacts on the cartridges with a lint-free cloth if they look dirty.
- Reinsert the cartridges and ensure they are seated properly.
3. Clean the Printhead
- Some printer failures can stem from clogged or malfunctioning printheads.
- If your printer has a printhead cleaning option in the settings, use it.
- If cleaning doesn't help, remove the printhead (if removable) and clean the contact points gently.
4. Update or Reinstall the Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. You can do this through the HP Support website or the HP Smart app.
- Outdated firmware can cause various issues, including communication errors with the cartridges.
5. Factory Reset
- Performing a factory reset might clear internal errors:
- From the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore and select Restore Factory Defaults.
6. Run a Diagnostic
- HP’s Print and Scan Doctor (for Windows) is a free diagnostic tool that can often detect and repair printer issues.
