My HP Officejet Pro 8610 is not working. Says Printer Failure on the screen. I’ve tried turning it off and back on, unplugging it. Checked ink cartridges. Says to contact HP-but of course there’s no one to contact. Frustrating!

Hi @JenL33, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Printer Failure" message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 usually indicates a hardware issue, but there are a few steps you can try to resolve it:

Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait 3–5 minutes to allow the printer to discharge completely.
  3. While the printer is unplugged, press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Plug the printer back in directly to a wall outlet (avoid power strips/surge protectors).
  5. Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

Check for Jammed Cartridges or Printhead

  1. Open the printer’s cartridge access door and inspect for any paper jams or obstructions.
  2. Remove the ink cartridges and check for leaks or damage.
  3. While the cartridges are out, inspect the printhead area for any debris.
  4. Reinsert the cartridges securely and close the printer cover.

Printhead Reseating (if removable)

  1. If your printhead is removable, take it out and reseat it properly.
  2. Clean the printhead contacts gently using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  3. Reinsert the printhead, ensuring it's firmly in place.

Update or Reset Firmware

  1. If the printer turns on without an error, try updating the firmware via HP Smart or the HP Support website.
  2. If the error persists, try a semi-full reset (this resets the printer settings to factory defaults):
    • On the printer’s touchscreen, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
