My HP Officejet Pro 8610 is not working. Says Printer Failure on the screen. I’ve tried turning it off and back on, unplugging it. Checked ink cartridges. Says to contact HP-but of course there’s no one to contact. Frustrating!

Hi @JenL33, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Printer Failure" message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 usually indicates a hardware issue, but there are a few steps you can try to resolve it:
Power Reset
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait 3–5 minutes to allow the printer to discharge completely.
- While the printer is unplugged, press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in directly to a wall outlet (avoid power strips/surge protectors).
- Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.
Check for Jammed Cartridges or Printhead
- Open the printer’s cartridge access door and inspect for any paper jams or obstructions.
- Remove the ink cartridges and check for leaks or damage.
- While the cartridges are out, inspect the printhead area for any debris.
- Reinsert the cartridges securely and close the printer cover.
Printhead Reseating (if removable)
- If your printhead is removable, take it out and reseat it properly.
- Clean the printhead contacts gently using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Reinsert the printhead, ensuring it's firmly in place.
Update or Reset Firmware
- If the printer turns on without an error, try updating the firmware via HP Smart or the HP Support website.
- If the error persists, try a semi-full reset (this resets the printer settings to factory defaults):
- On the printer’s touchscreen, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
