HP 7640 printer. Does not start when pushing the screen. After good service for several years. Green light shining where electricity goes in! But no action when pushing the screen. Can I restart manually? Or what to do?

Hi @Nordstrand,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Power Connection:

  • Ensure the power cord is firmly connected to the printer and to a working electrical outlet.
  • If the green light indicates power is present, try using a different power outlet to ensure it's functioning correctly.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the outlet and the printer.
  • Wait for at least 15 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the outlet and reconnect it to the printer.
  • Press the On button to turn the printer back on. This hard reset can often resolve startup issues.

Ensure Printer is On:

  • Check the On button located on the printer. If it is not lit up, the printer is turned off. Press the On button to attempt turning it on.

Inspect the Control Panel:

  • If the screen is unresponsive or not displaying anything, inspect it for any physical damages.
  • If the screen problem persists, consider contacting HP Support for further assistance.

Update or Reinstall Printer Software:

  • If the above steps don't resolve the issue, try reinstalling or updating the printer software. Visit the HP Website for the latest software updates specific to your printer model.

Check Display Error Messages:

  • If the printer display shows any error messages, follow the onscreen instructions for resolution.

I hope this helps.
