HP Deskjet 2680 printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I am trying to set up my Deskjet 2680 printer with a usb hooked up to my laptop. However, when I plug in the power cable into the printer, the power button, Ink alert light, Resume button, and the information button lights all start blinking. The screen is also showing all the possible symbols for errors and the big number is an E. I tried resetting the printer by pressing the cancel button and the wifi button, and the cancel button with the power button, those both didn't work. I also tried placing the ink cartridges and paper but the error indicators will not go away.  I don't know what to do to set up this printer. Could someone please help me set it up?

Hi @ElKai23,

I'd like to help!

Please try the below suggestions-

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Make sure the ink cartridges are correctly installed

The printer might display an error if the ink cartridges are not correctly installed. Remove the ink cartridges, check them for any plastic tape, reinstall the ink cartridges, and then try to print again.

  1. Turn on the printer.

  2. Open the ink cartridge access door.

The carriage moves to the center of the printer.

  3. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  4. Gently press down on the ink cartridge to release it, and then pull the ink cartridge out of its slot.

       CAUTION:

Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

  5. Inspect for and remove any protective tape from the contacts.

       CAUTION:

Do not try to remove the copper electrical strip.

  6. Hold the ink cartridge by its sides with the contacts toward the printer, insert the ink cartridge into its slot, and then gently push the ink cartridge until it snaps into place.

    NOTE:

Install the color ink cartridge on the left and the black ink cartridge on the right.

  7. Repeat these steps for the other ink cartridge, if necessary.

  8. Close the ink cartridge access door.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
