Printer Jam with no Jam

HP Recommended
HP Envy 5055

When we first turned on the machine out of the box, the screen said there was a "printer jam."  There hadn't been any paper in it.  But, we went thru the steps anyway to clear a paper jam.  But the screen kept saying there was a printer jam.  We didn't open the box until a week or so after the warranty expired as it was a college gift.  I can find zero help on this.  How can we clear a jam that isn't there?  There doesn't appear to be anything the matter with the printer otherwise.  Looking around with the flashlight shows no obvious issues.

@BiffMalibu, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Let us try these steps:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Check for any packaging materials or cardboards/plastics inside the printer.

Remove the ink cartridges, check for protective tape is any and remove them be fore reinstalling them.

Also, perform the steps mentioned in this document to resolve this issue - Paper Jam Error

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
