Hi @Sahil69,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Dealing with an HP printer that won't pick up paper or has paper jam issues can be frustrating. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve these problems.

Paper Jam Issue

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

Remove Jammed Paper:

  • Open all accessible areas where paper might be jammed, such as the input tray, output tray, and rear access door.
  • Gently remove any jammed paper. Be careful not to tear the paper, as small bits can be difficult to remove and cause further jams.

Check Rollers:

  • Inspect the rollers for any pieces of paper or debris. Clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water if they are dirty.

Reset the Printer:

  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on to see if the issue is resolved.

Paper Not Picking Up

Check Paper Quality:

  • Ensure you are using paper that meets the printer's specifications. Avoid using paper that is too thick, too thin, or has a rough texture.

Load Paper Correctly:

  • Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the tray. Adjust the paper width guides so they fit snugly against the paper stack without bending the paper.

Clean the Paper Feed Rollers:

  • Over time, paper feed rollers can become dirty or worn. To clean them:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    • Locate the paper feed rollers (usually accessible from the paper tray or the back of the printer).
    • Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to gently clean the rollers. Rotate the rollers manually to clean the entire surface.
    • Let the rollers dry completely before plugging the printer back in and turning it on.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Ensure there are no obstructions in the paper path. Even small objects can prevent the printer from picking up paper.

Adjust Paper Settings:

  • Make sure the paper size and type settings in the printer software match the actual paper loaded in the tray.

Additional Steps

Update Firmware and Drivers:

  • Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware and drivers can resolve hardware-related issues. Visit HP's official website, download the latest updates for your printer model, and install them.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Resetting the printer to its factory settings can sometimes resolve persistent issues. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on performing a factory reset.

Use HP's Diagnostic Tools:

  • HP offers diagnostic tools like the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which can automatically detect and fix common printing and scanning problems.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
