Hi @Oliviemabl,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your printer is experiencing a paper feed issue where the paper is not advancing properly through the printer. This can be caused by various issues, including paper jams, misaligned paper, or problems with the paper feed mechanism. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this problem:

1. Check for Paper Jams

  • Turn Off the Printer: Power down your printer and unplug it from the electrical outlet.
  • Open the Printer: Open the printer’s access doors to inspect for any paper stuck inside the printer.
  • Remove Any Jammed Paper: Carefully remove any paper or debris you find. Make sure no small bits of paper are left inside.

2. Inspect and Adjust Paper Tray

  • Check Paper Tray: Make sure the paper tray is correctly inserted into the printer.
  • Align Paper: Ensure that the paper is properly aligned and not overfilled. The paper should be placed in the tray with the correct orientation, and the paper guides should be snug against the paper stack but not too tight.
  • Remove and Reinsert Tray: Remove the paper tray and reinsert it to make sure it is seated correctly.

3. Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

  • Turn Off the Printer: Power down and unplug the printer.
  • Locate Rollers: Open the printer and locate the paper feed rollers. These are typically located near the paper tray and inside the printer.
  • Clean Rollers: Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water (not soaked) to gently clean the rollers. Rotate the rollers with your fingers to clean all sides.
  • Dry Rollers: Allow the rollers to dry completely before plugging the printer back in.

4. Check for Proper Paper Type and Size

  • Use Recommended Paper: Ensure you are using the correct type and size of paper recommended by the printer manufacturer.
  • Check Paper Weight: Avoid using paper that is too thick or too thin for your printer.

5. Reset the Printer

  • Power Cycle: After addressing the paper feed issue, turn the printer back on and attempt to print a test page.

6. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Check for Driver Updates: Ensure that your printer drivers are up-to-date. Visit the printer manufacturer’s website to download and install the latest drivers.
  • Reinstall Drivers: If updating drivers doesn’t help, try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer drivers.

7. Perform a Printer Self-Test

  • Print a Test Page: Many printers have a built-in function to print a test page. This can help determine if the issue is with the paper feed or something else.
  • Access Printer Settings: Refer to the printer’s user manual for instructions on how to perform a self-test or diagnostic print.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
