Hi @Guana,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the Black Ink Cartridge Error on HP DeskJet Printers!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Verify Cartridge Installation:

  • Open the printer cover and ensure that the replacement black ink cartridge is installed correctly in its slot.
  • Make sure the cartridge is securely clicked into place.

Check Compatibility:

  • Verify that the cartridge is compatible with your specific HP DeskJet printer model. Consult your printer's user manual or check on the HP website for the correct cartridge numbers.

Inspect Cartridge for Damage:

  • Remove the cartridge and check for any plastic tape that may still be covering the nozzles or contacts. All protective strips must be completely removed before installation.
  • Inspect the cartridge for physical damage or leaks, and replace it if necessary.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Use a clean, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge as well as inside the printer. Do not touch the nozzles or the copper strips.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, wait for about a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear errors.

Conduct a Printer Diagnostic:

  • Use the printer's control panel to initiate a self-diagnostic or print a test page. This can help identify if there's an ongoing issue with the cartridge or another printer component.

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up-to-date, as updates can sometimes fix cartridge recognition issues. Check and update via the HP support website.

Replace with Another New Cartridge:

  • If available, try installing a different new black ink cartridge. It is possible that the current replacement cartridge is faulty.

I hope this helps.
