Hi @Steve3911

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for already checking the basics — I understand how frustrating it is when one function works while the other stays silent.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 is printing but not scanning, the issue is likely with the scan software, communication settings, or scanner initialization. Let’s walk through a few precise steps to restore scanning functionality.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting for Scanning Issues

1. Restart Devices and Check Connection

  • Power off the printer and your computer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer for 60 seconds, then reconnect and power it on.
  • Ensure the printer is connected via USB or Wi-Fi and is on the same network as your PC.

2. Use the HP App to Scan

  • Open the HP App on your Windows PC.
  • Select your printer > Scan > Scan Document or Photo
  • If the scan option is missing or unresponsive, proceed to the next step.

3. Run the Diagnose & Fix Tool

This tool checks for scan-related issues and repairs them:

  • Download from the Diagnose & Fix tool page
  • Launch the tool and follow the prompts to scan and repair your printer setup

4. Check Windows Services

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter
  • Scroll to Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
  • Make sure it’s set to Automatic and is Running
  • If not, right-click > Properties > Start the service

5. Reinstall the Full Feature Software

6. Try Windows Fax and Scan

  • Press Windows + S, type Windows Fax and Scan, and open it
  • Click New Scan and select your printer
  • If it scans here, the issue may be with the HP App interface

If the scanner still doesn’t respond, let me know what happens when you try to scan from the HP App or control panel.

You’ve done a great job staying proactive — let’s keep going until your scanner hums back to life.
