Hi @GCPr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 shows “printing” on the display but does not actually print, and your computer reports “the document cannot be printed.” Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Clear the print queue

On your computer, open Control Panel → Devices and Printers.

Right-click the OfficeJet Pro 7720 → See what’s printing → cancel all documents.

This clears stuck jobs that prevent new prints.

Power reset the printer

Turn off the printer → unplug it from power for 60 seconds → plug it back in → turn it on.

This clears any internal memory errors that may be causing the “printing” message to hang.

Check ink levels and cartridges

Ensure all ink cartridges are installed correctly and have sufficient ink.

Remove and reseat cartridges if necessary.

Reconnect printer to the computer

If using USB, try a different cable or port.

If using Wi-Fi, make sure the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.

Update or reinstall printer driver

Download the full-feature driver from HP Support for the OfficeJet Pro 7720.

Uninstall the existing driver first, then install the updated version.

Run Windows Printer Troubleshooter

Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Printer.

Let Windows detect and fix any driver or communication issues.

Check for firmware updates

Using HP Smart or the printer control panel, check for firmware updates.

Firmware fixes can resolve printing hangs and communication issues.

I hope this helps.
