Printer does not print barcodes

Most printers are simply not aware of what they are printing.

If the printer is clean, passes print quality checks, and ready to do its best work, the printer should generally supported content on supported paper, supported size, and as supported file type.

Assuming the paper size and paper type are supported,

If a certain type of type does not print, the underlying cause is sometimes just a translation issue.

That means the printer is perhaps receiving job data (that) it cannot translate into printer language.

Usual Solutions include (and are not limited to)

  • Print the document as an Image  (Adobe Reader can do this easily)
  • If Windows, Snip or Screenshot the data, crop the bits you want, save as a photo image (.jpg) - Print the image
  • If Mobile, Screenshot the data as an Image, crop (if available), save / print the Image file

Sorry to jump in but I deal with bar coding at the Enterprise level and need a few details:

What type of printer are you trying to print with.

What type of barcode, many printers require an additional fonts in order to print many types of bar codes. Out of the box they either print no barcodes or very limited numbers. If you can screen shot the document with the barcode and print it as an image instead of a document it might work.

Sure, it makes sense that a given printer might smarter or dumber about fonts and barcodes.

That's a good point.

I always go straight to Print as an Image because the solution is, as far as I can figure, independent of most printer models.

Most printers are supported by an app or software that prints an image.

Most devices provide some means of creating a screenshot or Snip of whatever can be displayed.

True - I've not fully investigated my Mobile device options as it relates to opening a PDF file and then printing that file as Image.

There might be something to that...

Poof.  Image print.

😉

@Dragon-Fur In a lot of industrial applications there is no option to print as an image, the printer must support bar codes. Companies like TypeHaus produce USB sticks or specialized network adapters to add required fonts.

And a question asked becomes a lesson learned.

Thanks for the information!
