Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and the back of the printer.
  • Turn on the printer.

Check for Paper Jams

  • Open the printer and check for any paper jams or obstructions. Remove any stuck paper carefully.
  • Inspect the printer's feed path for small pieces of paper or debris.

Check the Printhead

  • Turn off the printer and open the ink cartridge door.
  • Check if the printhead or cartridges are installed properly.
  • If needed, try removing and reinstalling the cartridges.
  • Clean the printhead if you notice any ink buildup or debris.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check HP’s website for the latest version and update the printer if needed.
  • Try reinstalling the printer drivers on your computer as outdated drivers can sometimes cause communication errors.

Perform a Reset on the Printer

  • You can try a factory reset, which can help if there’s a software issue causing the shutdowns.
  • To reset the printer, go to the printer’s control panel, select "Setup," then "Printer Maintenance," and look for a "Restore Defaults" or "Reset" option.

Check Ink Cartridges

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and have sufficient ink. If any cartridge is low or empty, replace it.

Check the Power Supply

  • Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • If the printer is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, try plugging it directly into the wall to rule out any power issues.
