@Tee741, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

To troubleshoot a "printer busy" or "printer error" on your HP Smart Tank 555, you can try a few different steps to resolve the issue. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you reset and troubleshoot your printer:

Step 1: Restart Your Printer and Computer

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the printer and the power source.
  2. Wait 60 seconds and then reconnect the power cord.
  3. Turn on the printer and wait until it completes its warm-up routine.
  4. Restart your computer to ensure there are no pending print jobs or software issues affecting the connection.

Step 2: Reset Printer Settings

If restarting does not resolve the issue, resetting the printer settings to the default configuration can be helpful.

  1. Locate the control panel on the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Cancel and Wireless buttons for about 5 seconds or until the attention light blinks.
  3. This will reset the network settings, putting the printer in Wi-Fi setup mode (the Wi-Fi light should start blinking).

Step 3: Check for Paper Jams or Low Ink

  1. Check for any paper jams inside the printer and clear them.
  2. Ensure that there is enough paper loaded properly in the paper tray.
  3. Check the ink levels and ensure that there is no low or empty ink cartridge that could be causing the error.

Step 4: Reinstall Printer Software

  1. Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
  2. Uninstall any previous printer drivers from your computer.
  3. Reinstall the downloaded drivers and follow the on-screen instructions to set up the printer again.

Step 5: Connect the Printer

  1. After resetting the network settings (Step 2), use the HP Smart app to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Make sure the printer and computer are on the same network.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
