Hi @PatsyJo,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Printer in an error state" message typically indicates that the printer has encountered an issue preventing it from completing print jobs. Here are some steps to troubleshoot the problem.
Check Connections: Ensure that all cables (USB or network) are securely connected to both the printer and the computer or router.
Restart Devices: Turn off both the printer and your computer. Wait a few moments, then turn them back on. This can often resolve temporary issues.
Check Printer Status:
- For HP printers, go to the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app to see if there are any specific error messages or warnings.
Update or Reinstall Drivers:
- Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
- Reinstall the drivers by running the downloaded installer.
Check Ink/Toner and Paper:
- Ensure that there is enough ink or toner and that paper is loaded correctly in the tray.
- Look for any paper jams or other physical obstructions in the printer.
Run Printer Troubleshooter (Windows):
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
- Select "Printer" and follow the prompts to diagnose and fix issues.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Visit the HP support website and check if there is a firmware update available for your printer.
Reset Printer:
- Sometimes performing a factory reset can resolve persistent issues
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
