@Dink370 io9,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Community! 🎉

I’m here to help you troubleshoot your issue and get things back on track. Just follow these steps below, and we’ll have you running smoothly in no time:

Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
  2. Unplug the printer’s power cable from the wall socket and wait for about 30 seconds.
  3. Plug the power cable back in and turn the printer on.

Check the Ink Cartridges

  1. Open the printer’s ink cartridge access door.
  2. Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed—they should be clicked into place securely. If any cartridge is missing or not seated correctly, it might cause the setup issue.
  3. Check for protective tape on the cartridges (if it's a new printer) and remove any packaging or tape that could be obstructing proper installation.

Check the Paper Tray

Ensure that the paper tray is correctly inserted into the printer and contains paper. Sometimes a misaligned tray can trigger errors during the setup process.

Check Wi-Fi Connection (for wireless setup)

  1. If you’re connecting your printer to Wi-Fi, ensure that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or mobile device.
  2. Print a network configuration page to verify the printer’s Wi-Fi status:
    • On the printer, navigate to Wireless or Wi-Fi Direct settings.
    • Print a network configuration report.
  3. If the printer is not connected to Wi-Fi:
    • Use the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer screen to reconnect it to the network.
    • Enter the Wi-Fi password correctly.

Complete the Setup Using HP Smart App

  1. Download the HP Smart app (if you haven’t already) on your mobile device or computer:
    • For mobile: Go to the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
    • For Windows: Download it from the Microsoft Store.
    • For macOS: Visit the Mac App Store.
  2. Open the HP Smart app and select "Add a printer".
  3. The app should recognize your printer and walk you through the setup process.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the printer setup, including Wi-Fi connection, ink setup, and software installation.

Use the Printer Control Panel

  1. On the printer’s control panel, tap on the Setup or Wireless icon.
  2. Follow the prompts to set up the printer.
  3. If you're connecting the printer via USB, ensure that your computer recognizes the printer during the setup. If not, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.

Update Printer Firmware

  1. Make sure that your printer's firmware is up to date:
    • Open the HP Smart app or go to HP's official website for firmware updates.
    • Follow the prompts to download and install the latest firmware.

Reinstall the Printer Software

  1. Uninstall the current printer software from your computer.
  2. Download the latest driver and software from HP’s official website: HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e Drivers & Downloads.
  3. Install the software again, ensuring you follow the prompts carefully.

Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

  1. If none of the above works, try performing a factory reset on your printer:
    • Go to the Setup menu on the printer control panel.
    • Find the Restore Defaults or Reset option and confirm the reset.
    • After the reset, go through the setup process again from scratch.

Check for Error Messages

  • Look for any error codes or messages on the printer’s display screen. If you see a specific error code, note it down and search the HP support website or manual for more information on how to resolve it.

Check Connectivity with Your Computer

  • Ensure that your computer can communicate with the printer.
    • For USB connection: Make sure the cable is plugged in properly.
    • For wireless connection: Ensure that both the printer and computer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
