@Kia70, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer throwing an error message!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Here are some steps to resolve the issue:

Check the Cartridge Compatibility

Ensure that the ink cartridge is compatible with the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus (N911g). The correct ink cartridges for this model are:

  • HP 950 Black
  • HP 951 Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow

If you have a different model number (e.g., HP 950XL or HP 951XL), it should still work, but confirm the packaging states compatibility.

Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  2. Wait for 60 seconds.
  3. Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

Remove and Reinsert the Ink Cartridge

  1. Open the printer's ink cartridge access door.
  2. Remove all ink cartridges and inspect them for protective tape—if present, remove it.
  3. Wipe the gold contacts of the cartridge gently with a lint-free cloth.
  4. Reinsert the cartridges one by one, ensuring they click into place.

Clean the Printer’s Ink Cartridge Contacts

If the issue persists:

  1. Power off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the gold contacts inside the printer where the cartridge connects.
  3. Let it dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.
  4. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause false error messages.

  • Visit HP’s support website
  • Search for "HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus N911g firmware update"
  • Download and install the latest firmware on your printer.

Let me know if it helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
