@HughG4, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP Envy 4527 printer error code 0x61000073 is typically related to a carriage jam, internal hardware failure, or firmware glitch. Since you've already power-cycled the printer and confirmed no paper jams, try the following troubleshooting steps:

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  2. Wait for 2-3 minutes to allow residual power to drain.
  3. Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.

Check the Cartridge Carriage Movement

  1. Open the cartridge access door and check if the carriage moves freely.
  2. If it is stuck, gently move it to the center and remove any obstructions.
  3. Reseat the ink cartridges properly and close the door.

Update the Printer Firmware

If the printer boots up without errors, check for a firmware update:

Clean the Encoder Strip

The encoder strip (transparent plastic strip behind the carriage) may have dirt or ink residue:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the strip.
  3. Allow it to dry and turn the printer back on.

Perform a Semi-Full Reset (Last Resort)

If the error persists:

  1. On the printer, press & hold the back button (↩️) 4 times.
  2. Enter Support Menu > Resets > Semi-Full Reset.
  3. Follow on-screen prompts. This will reset the printer to factory settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
