Hello, I keep getting a printer failure message, saying that there’s a problem with the printer or print system, to turn the printer off and then back on… I have done this several times and this message still keeps coming up and it suggests that I contact HP for help

@Leebee45, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you’re dealing with a persistent issue! The error you're seeing could be related to several things, from software conflicts to hardware malfunctions. Let's go through a few more detailed troubleshooting steps to help you get to the bottom of this before you have to contact HP.

Restart the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Wait for 60 seconds and connect the power cord back in.
  5. Turn on the printer.

Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

Open the printer and carefully inspect the paper path for any small bits of paper that might be jammed, especially in hard-to-reach areas.

Make sure no paper is stuck inside the printer’s output tray or in the paper feed.

Check Ink or Toner Cartridges

Open the printer and make sure the ink or toner cartridges are seated correctly. If any cartridges are low or improperly installed, the printer may fail to start or continue the print job.

If you have a low ink warning, it may be worth replacing the ink cartridges to see if that resolves the issue.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only):

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
