I have had the same issue as my printer has  just stop printing with the same message.  I have also tried all of these steps and it still does not print.  I have had this printer since April 2016.  It is now out of warranty and not supported.  I was told to just replace the printer and that it would not be efficient to replace the printhead since it is no longer supported.  What is the the best case?

Has anyone cleaned their printhead and it is now printing?

Hi @VDS_72,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer is showing a “Printer Failure” or “Problem with the Printer or Ink System” message and it’s no longer under warranty. Let’s go through some practical steps to check what can still be done before considering replacement.

a. Power Reset

Turn off the printer.

Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Plug it directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).

Turn the printer back on and check if the error clears.

b. Reseat Ink Cartridges

Open the ink access door and remove all cartridges.

Inspect for any leaks, ink buildup, or damage on the cartridge contacts.

Clean the copper contacts gently with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

Reinsert the cartridges firmly, making sure each one clicks into place.

Close the lid and restart the printer.

c. Clean the Printhead

If your printer model allows printhead removal, carefully take it out and clean the bottom (where ink exits) with a lint-free cloth dampened with warm distilled water.

Let it dry for 10–15 minutes, reinstall, and try printing again.

If it’s a non-removable printhead, run the “Clean Printhead” option from the printer menu under Printer Maintenance.

d. Check for Clogged or Expired Cartridges

Old or partially dried cartridges can cause ink system failures.

Try replacing just one cartridge at a time, especially if one color is suspected to be bad.

I hope this helps.
