Hi @martygautreaux,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When you receive a "printer failure" error after changing the ink cartridges, it could be due to a few different issues. Here are steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve this problem with your HP OfficeJet 3830:
Step 1: Check the Ink Cartridges
- Ensure that the ink cartridges you are using are compatible with the HP OfficeJet 3830. Use genuine HP cartridges specifically designed for your printer model.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.Open the printer and remove the ink cartridges.
- Check for any protective tape or packaging materials that may still be on the cartridges and remove them if present.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges, making sure they are properly seated in their slots.
- Close the printer, plug it back in, and turn it on.
Step 2: Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the printer and the power outlet.Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the printer and the power outlet.Turn on the printer.
Step 3: Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.Open the printer to access the ink cartridges.Remove the cartridges and gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.Close the printer, plug it back in, and turn it on.
Step 4: Update Printer Firmware
- If the printer turns on, check for firmware updates that may address issues with ink cartridges.
- Download and install any available updates from the HP support website.
Step 5: Printer Diagnostics
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP support website. This tool can help diagnose and resolve many common printing and scanning issues.
Step 6: Factory Reset the Printer
- If possible, perform a factory reset on the printer through the control panel settings. This can sometimes resolve persistent errors.Note that this will reset all settings to their default values, and you will need to reconfigure your network settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
