My printer is giving E0 and E1 codes. I have replaced the ink cartridges, and it still gives the same error codes.

Printer is HP Deskjet 4255e

@Chris01211953, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Resolving E0 and E1 Error Codes on HP DeskJet 4255e

The error codes E0 and E1 on your HP DeskJet 4255e printer indicate problems related to the ink cartridges and paper size mismatch, respectively. Here are the steps to troubleshoot and resolve these errors:

Error E0 - Unusable Cartridge

Check the Ink Cartridges:

  • Open the cartridge access door and ensure that the cartridges are properly seated.
  • Make sure there is no plastic tape still attached to the cartridges.
  • Confirm that you are using the correct HP cartridges for your printer. New cartridges should be compatible, but double-check the model compatibility.

Resolution:

  • Remove and reinstall the cartridges to ensure correct installation.
  • If the error persists, try replacing the cartridges. Sometimes, the issue could be due to a defective cartridge.

Error E1 - Paper Size Mismatch

Check Paper Settings:

  • Ensure that the paper loaded matches the size settings mentioned in the printer driver or application.
  • If using custom-sized paper, check the dimensions against the acceptable standards of the printer.

Resolution:

  • Load paper that matches the current print settings in the printer tray.
  • Adjust the paper size settings in your print job to match the loaded paper. This can usually be done through your document editing software before printing.

Additional Steps:

  • Press the Cancel button to stop the current print job and reload paper if necessary.
  • Correct any paper size settings in the software, and try the print job again.

For persistent issues, consider running a diagnostic through the HP Smart app
