Cannot add printer name, it keeps saying printer idle. Turn off and on both the notebook and printer but it's still the same

Hi @AmaraPalawan,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is showing as idle and won’t print, despite restarting both the printer and your notebook, here are a few steps you can try.

Set the Printer to "Online" Status:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your HP printer and select See what’s printing.
  • In the new window, click on Printer and uncheck Use Printer Offline if it’s checked.

Clear Print Queue:

  • In the same See what’s printing window, click Printer again, and choose Cancel All Documents. This will clear any stuck print jobs.

Check Default Printer:

  • Right-click on the printer in Devices and Printers and select Set as default printer.

Restart Print Spooler Service:

  • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll down and find Print Spooler. Right-click on it, select Restart.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Go to the HP support website, download the latest drivers for your model, and reinstall them.
  • Alternatively, uninstall the printer from Devices and Printers and reinstall it.

Update Firmware (if applicable):

  • Some HP models may require a firmware update, which can be done via the HP Smart app or directly from HP’s website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
