Hi @philm5,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP OfficeJet 3830 All-In-One Printer is only saving documents instead of printing them on a Microsoft Windows 11 operating system, it's likely an issue related to software settings or driver problems. Here are several steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Default Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that your HP OfficeJet 3830 is set as the default printer. Sometimes, documents get saved instead of printed if the system is configured to "print" to a PDF writer or another virtual printer by default.
  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners. Check if your HP printer is set as the default. If not, select it and choose "Set as default."

Printer Driver Update:

  • Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause printing issues. Updating the printer driver could resolve the problem.
  • Go to the HP support website, find the drivers for the HP OfficeJet 3830 for Windows 11, and follow the instructions to install them. Alternatively, you can use the Device Manager to update your printer driver:
    • Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
    • Find your printer under "Printers" or "Print queues", right-click on it, and choose Update driver.
    • Select Search automatically for updated driver software and follow the on-screen instructions.

Check Print Queue:

  • Sometimes, stuck print jobs can cause issues. Clearing the print queue might help.
  • Open the Control Panel, go to Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select See what's printing. If there are any stuck jobs, cancel them.

Printer Software:

  • HP provides its own software for managing printers. Make sure the HP software is installed and up to date. This software can also help identify and troubleshoot problems.

Print Spooler Service:

  • The print spooler service might need to be restarted if it's encountering issues.
  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter. Scroll down to Print Spooler, right-click on it, and select Restart.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Sometimes, a Windows update can resolve compatibility issues with your printer. Check for any available updates by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and click Check for updates.

Could you please run Hp print and scab doc;  https://support.hp.com/in-en/help/printscandoctor

I hope this helps.
