Hi @DLWitte,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code B8088738 typically indicates an issue related to the printer’s ink system. The flashing ink tanks could mean that there's a problem with the cartridge recognition or a failure in the ink system.

Here's what you can try to resolve the issue.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer using the power button. If the power button isn't working, unplug the printer from the electrical outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds and plug the printer back in.
  • Try turning it on again and see if the error persists.

Check the Ink Tanks:

  • Open the ink tank compartment and make sure that the ink tanks are installed correctly.
  • If any of the ink tanks are missing or improperly seated, reinsert them and ensure they lock into place.
  • If any ink tank seems to be damaged, replace it with a new one.

Reset the Printer:

  • If the power cycle doesn’t help, you may want to perform a hard reset of the printer.
  • For HP Smart Tank printers, press and hold the Power button and the Resume button simultaneously for about 10 seconds. Release both buttons and then try turning on the printer.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • If the printer starts up, check for any available firmware updates. Sometimes, firmware issues can cause specific error codes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
