The printer was not printing, so I ran HP print scan doctor. When I tested the printer prompted by HP Print Scan Doctor, the page printed was fine. When I tried to print a document after that it was still not printing.

Thanks.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • Do you get any error while trying to print?

Installing HP Full-featured drivers may resolve this issue. Let us try these steps:

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your computer.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Step 1: Clean uninstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Hi Kumar

Thanks for trying to help. I did excatly what you mentioned but  still does not work. Same problem. Before I received your post I had  uninstalled the printer and I had downloaded the latest firmware.  My wife from a different PC (a MAC) tried to print something, it did print one portion of her file and the rest was blank. Then I ran the printer doctor software, I printed the test page and it worked. Then I tried to print from a file I had and it did not print anything.

When I received you post I uninstalled everything as you suggested and I reinstalled the software but it did not work.

Regards.

How is the printer connected to your PC?

  • If it is wirelessly connected, Obtain the IP address of the printer by tapping the Wireless icon on the printer screen
  • Type in this IP address in a web browser and hit enter. If you get a security notification, click on proceed to this website.
  • Check if it redirects you to the EWS page of the printer.
  • Try to print a test page. Proceed to the next step if a test page prints.

Add Windows built-in drivers:

Refer to this document.

Try to print.

Thanks Kumar

The printer is connected wirelessly, but appart from that I would like to mention that perhaps the problem is something that has to do with the HP printer and scan doctor.

i removed the printer from my PC and my wife, who has a MAC PC installed the printer and the drivers for her PC. She had the same probelms, but she searched on the web and she found out that other people had the same issues.

Then she realized that what the printer was able to print were images, but not text. And apparently this was so because the ink black level was not adequate, despite the HP software was saying it was OK. So she decided to print some text in blue and it worked. Other people reported the same results.

So, the bottom line, it seems, is that HP should check how the "doctor" assesses the ink levels.

I will order black ink and see what happens. I will report back.

Regards.

@Patoruzu

  • Sure, you can use a new black ink cartridge and check if that works fine.
  • If the HP Print and Scan Doctor is not functioning properly, try installing the updated version of it. Click here to download the latest version.
  • The ink levels shown in the Print and Scan Doctor is an estimate and not accurate.
  • Printing a test page consume less amount of ink than printing documents/photos from a computer.
  • Replace the empty ink cartridge with a HP regular/XL ink cartridge for better results.
  • For more information about cartridge yields and ink use, click here

Keep me posted.

Yes, the problem was that the black ink cartridge was empty. The HP software was unable to detect it but I took the chance and changed the cartridge and that solved the issue.
