Hi @LeeCartz,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue where your printer only prints the color portions of a document but skips the black parts is often related to the black ink cartridge or the printhead. Since you've already tried restoring factory settings, cleaning the printhead, and installing brand-new ink, here are a few additional steps you can try.

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Confirm that the new black ink cartridge is compatible with your printer model. Using non-genuine or incompatible cartridges can sometimes cause this issue.

Run a Diagnostic Print:

  • Most printers allow you to print a diagnostic or test page through the printer settings. This page can help identify if the black ink is working correctly. Look for any black sections to see if the cartridge is printing at all.

Reinstall the Black Cartridge:

  • Remove the black ink cartridge, clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth with a small amount of distilled water or isopropyl alcohol, and then reinstall it securely.

Deep Cleaning/Ink Priming:

  • Many printers offer a "Deep Cleaning" or "Priming" option in the maintenance menu. Perform this to help clear any blockages in the printhead.

Check for Ink Clogging:

  • Even with new cartridges, dried ink or air bubbles can sometimes block the printhead. If your printer allows manual cleaning, gently clean the printhead with a damp cloth. Avoid using excessive pressure.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the printer manufacturer's website and ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Firmware updates can resolve bugs and compatibility issues.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that the "Grayscale" or "Black & White" option is not disabled in the print settings.
  • Set the document to print using "Black Ink Only" (if available) to test if the black cartridge works independently.

Reset the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer from the power source while it is turned on. Wait for 60 seconds, then reconnect it and try printing again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
