Can anyone tell me how to fix this permanently.  My printer keeps disconnecting from the wireless network.  I have to keep unplugging, replugging, deleting the printer from the list and reinstalling it and eventually it works again, however this is no good when I need to print something in a hurry which is often!  Far too much of my day is wasted trying to solve these issues!  Please treat me gently as I am no computer expert!

Please provide the following relevant information so someone can help including:

Printer Model - done

Detailed Problem Description -

Operating System of computer (including service pack revision) - done

Connection Method - USB, Hardwired LAN, Wireless? -

Make and model of router and modem? -

Error messages - on printer screen and/or computer, any blinking light patterns?

If wireless, when the problem occurs, what is status of Blue Wireless light on printer, on, off or blinking? –

Power off printer and router. Power on router and wait 3 mins, power on printer. Does it connect to the router now? Do you have a valid IP address?

HP Recommended

The router is an orange livebox ZTE (we're in France).

Operating system : OSX Lion 10.7.5

Conncection: Wireless

Error message on printer: Not connected

Network name n/a

MAC: D4-C9-EF-56-00-97

Blue light blinking

When I try to reset the wireless network it finds the router but when I enter the password it says unable to connect to the network do I want to restore previous settings.

Wireless Network Test Results always say No Filtering:  Fail under settings

No problem with Wireless Direct

The blue light blinking means you are not connected to your routers SSID with password. You need to connect to your routers SSID with correct password. The blue light will be on solid when successful.

But that is exactly my point!  It keeps disconnecting.  The printer is less than 2 feet directly below the router.  From time to time it connects again and when I go to the wifi setup it finds the network but tells me it can not connect.

HP Recommended

First, move the printer and/or router so they are at least 3-4 feet apart. What do you do to get the printer to connect to the router? How long does it stay connected? When you have the issue, do you have a valid IP address?

My Officejet 3830 does the same thing. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it  It is about 4 feet away from my router. It will connect, then drop connection about 3-5 min later.

Hello, @johnsolo

Thanks for reaching out! I'd like to help 🙂

I'd suggest you assign a manual IP address and also disable the IPv6 on the printer. Here are the steps:

•    Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
•    Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
•    Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
•    Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
•    Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
•    Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂

i followed your guidance and adjusted on IPv6 while it was on both IPv4 and IPv6. this adjustment made the mess and now i am not able to even find my printer. besides, i cannot find how to changed it back because the IP number is not possible to connect to my browser anymore.

funny right!!
