HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw

Of late, the Printer keeps powering down after several hours. Must unplug for 60 seconds then replug it and then it starts.  Does anyone know why this would be happening?  If it can be fixed?

Hi @kringusa,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw might be experiencing a power issue. Here are a few potential reasons and solutions.

  • Power Source: Ensure that the printer is plugged into a stable power source. Sometimes, fluctuations or interruptions in power can cause devices to behave unpredictably. Try plugging it into a different outlet or using a surge protector.
  • Power Saving Settings: Check the printer's power saving settings. It's possible that it's configured to power down after a certain period of inactivity. You can adjust these settings through the printer's menu or software interface.
  • Firmware Update: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, HP releases updates to address bugs and improve performance. Check HP's website for firmware updates specific to your printer model and follow their instructions for installation.
  • Internal Issues: There could be internal issues with the printer's hardware or components that are causing it to shut down unexpectedly.
  • Overheating: Overheating can also cause devices to shut down. Ensure that the printer is well-ventilated and not placed in a location where it can easily overheat. Check for any dust buildup around vents and fans that may be obstructing airflow.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
