Every once in a while, I am not able to print. I noticed that if I X out of the HP assistant it then allows me to, but not now. How can I override this. Is very annoying.

Hi @Clari2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how annoying it is when your printer seems to lock up and refuses to print, especially when you’ve already tried closing HP Assistant and it still doesn’t respond. You’re doing everything right, and I’m here to help you get back to printing smoothly.

Steps to Override the Lock and Fix the Issue

1. Check and Reset Firmware

HP recommends checking your firmware version and doing a quick reset:

  • On the printer control panel, go to: Menu → Tools → Maintenance → Firmware
  • Open and close the front door of the printer
  • Press the Power button to turn it off, then turn it back on
  • Try printing again

2. Clear Print Queue and Restart Spooler (Windows 11)

Sometimes the print queue gets stuck due to HP Assistant or background services.

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter
  • Find Print Spooler, right-click → Stop
  • Go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files
  • Go back to services.msc, right-click Print SpoolerStart

3. Disable HP Smart Printing Lock

If HP Smart or HP Assistant is interfering:

  • Open the HP Smart app
  • Go to Settings → Advanced Settings
  • Disable any Smart Tasks or HP+ restrictions
  • Restart your printer and PC

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
