Hi @Cyrocks,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing print quality issues with your HP Smart Tank 500 printers, such as missing black ink, faded colors, or streaks, here are steps to help you resolve the problem:

1. Check Ink Levels and Refill

Low ink levels can compromise print quality. Ensure the ink tanks are filled sufficiently:

  • On the printer's control panel, look for the blinking ink icons and check estimated ink levels.
  • Refill any ink tanks that are low using genuine HP ink for the best results.

2. Verify Paper and Print Settings

Make sure your print job is configured properly:

  • Use the correct paper type and ensure it is clean and wrinkle-free.
  • Adjust print settings: choose the appropriate color, paper size, and quality settings for your document.

3. Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page

To assist with diagnosing any print quality problems:

  1. Hold the Copy Color and Resume buttons simultaneously for three seconds.
  2. Review the patterns on the printed diagnostic page for any missing colors, fading, or white lines.

4. Clean the Printhead

Addresses issues like streaks, incorrect colors, and faded printouts:

  • Utilize the HP Smart app or the printer control panel to perform printhead cleaning.
  • You may need to perform a second-level or third-level cleaning for stubborn issues.

5. Align the Printheads

Correct alignment ensures better print quality:

  • Use the HP Smart app or printer control panel to initiate a printhead alignment.
  • Follow the instructions on the alignment page for final adjustments.

6. Replace the Printhead

If issues persist, it may be necessary to replace the printhead:

  1. Remove and recycle the faulty printhead.
  2. Install a new printhead and follow the alignment instructions.
