Printer no longer prints in colour

HP Recommended
HP envy 5540 all in one

Hi, my printer has suddenly stopped printing in colour and the options for mono or colour in the printer preferences tab have disappeared. I've gone deep into the tabs and can't find any option to turn off grayscale or turn on colour.

Can you help please

Thanks

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂

Thank you for posting on HP Forums, MKazi is at your service.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY 5540 All-in-One Printer and it has stopped printing in color. And the options for mono or color in the printer preferences tab have disappeared. Not to worry, I'll do my best to assist you with this case.

I'm assuming you're using Windows because the "printer preferences" is present in Windows operating system. Let me know which Windows version you're using.

Secondly, Is the printer able to make a color photocopy? If yes then it indicates that the printer and ink cartridges are fine.

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Click here to download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. This is a free tool for Windows to help resolve issues with the printer drivers.

Please check if the option to print in color is present and try to print. If the issue persists then let us uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them. The following steps will help:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • You may click here to download and install the drivers.

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Keep me posted. I'll be glad to assist you further,

Good luck! 🙂
