HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g

I inherited a this 8600 printer. Upon arrival, I found there was some ink leaking, which I cleaned up. Now when I try to start it up, it gives the error 'There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP."  What's my best option to resolve this?

Hi @ijchin,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Dealing with a printer issue like this can be frustrating, especially with the error message you're seeing, which typically indicates a hardware or ink system problem. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue with your HP 8600 printer:

Reset the Printer: Often, a simple reset can clear error messages. To reset your HP printer, turn it off with the power button, then unplug it from the power source for about a minute. Plug it back in and turn it on. See if the error persists.

Check Ink Cartridges:

  • Reinstall the Ink Cartridges: Remove the ink cartridges and inspect them for any damage or leaks that may not have been completely cleaned up. Make sure there's no residual ink spillage inside the cartridge compartment. Reinstall the cartridges ensuring they are seated properly.
  • Replace Cartridges if Necessary: If cartridges are damaged or overly leaky, replacing them might resolve the error.

Clean the Print Head:

  • Some errors can be caused by a clogged or dirty print head. Your printer’s manual should have specific instructions on how to remove and clean the print head. Typically, this involves removing the ink cartridges, then removing the print head and gently cleaning it with warm water. Be sure to let it dry completely before reinstalling.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check this by going to the HP support website, entering your printer model, and following instructions for firmware updates.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Even small bits of paper stuck in the printer can cause issues. Check thoroughly for any jammed paper or debris in the paper feed and output trays.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
