@Greg302, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP 230 Design jet Plotter.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

To resolve the issues with printing on your HP230 Designjet Plotter, follow the steps below:

Issue 1: Unable to Print Larger than A3 Size

  1. Verify Media Size and Settings:

    • Ensure that the media loaded is suitable for A1 size. Check that the media is aligned properly and the settings in your software/application are set to A1.
  2. Check Plotter Configuration:

    • Go to the plotter’s menu system and check the current page size settings. Ensure it’s not defaulting to A3 or a smaller size.
  3. Software Configuration:

    • Ensure that the application settings are correct for printing at A1 size, as some applications might have their own page size settings that override the plotter’s settings.

Issue 2: Printing Only in Black Ink with Jagged Lines

  1. Replace or Reseat Print Cartridges:

    • Check if the color cartridges are seated properly or need replacing. Unseat and reseat them to ensure good electrical connectivity.
  2. Cartridge Alignment:

    • Run the automatic cartridge alignment procedure to ensure the cartridges are properly aligned.
    • This can be done by accessing the menu on the plotter and choosing the alignment option.
  3. Check Color/Monochrome Settings:

    • Ensure that the plotter’s settings are configured to print in color rather than monochrome. This option can usually be found in the printer’s front panel settings or via your print driver settings.
  4. Software and Driver Settings:

    • Ensure the print driver and software used for the plot are configured to send color data to the plotter. Check for any settings that might have been set to monochrome or black and white.
  5. Print Quality Setting:

    • Set the print quality to ‘Best’ to avoid jagged lines. A higher quality setting can help clear jagged lines by enhancing the resolution.

Additional Tips

  • Media Type Compatibility:
  • Ensure that you are using compatible media. Some media types might not support all print quality options.

  • Driver Updates:

  • Make sure the latest printer driver is installed. Outdated drivers can cause communication and functionality issues.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
