HP Color Laser MFP 178nw

My printer doesn't make copies in the A4 format anymore, it seems to only copy up to B5. I have tried to change the settings back and forth but without success. I have also tried to make a factory reset but not been able to. I don't know what to do? As it is today we can't copy anything.

Hi @Skattegarden,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the copy settings on your HP Color Laser MFP 178nw may be stuck on a particular format (B5) and unable to revert to A4. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Check the Paper Size Setting in the Copy Menu:

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to the Copy menu.
  • Navigate to Copy Settings or similar options and look for Paper Size.
  • Ensure that A4 is selected instead of B5. Try cycling through the available options and confirm the change by saving the settings.

Reset the Copy Settings:

  • In the Copy Settings menu, look for an option to Reset to Default Settings or Restore Default Copy Settings. This should revert any copy-specific changes back to factory defaults.

Factory Reset the Printer:

Since you attempted but were unable to perform a factory reset, here’s the proper way to do it:

  1. On the printer’s control panel, press the Menu button.
  2. Navigate to System Setup or Setup.
  3. Find the option labeled Service or Factory Defaults.
  4. Select Restore Factory Defaults or Reset All Settings.
  5. Confirm the reset.

After the reset, try copying again to see if the issue persists.

Update Printer Firmware:

If the issue is software-related, updating the printer’s firmware may help. You can:

  • Visit the HP Support website.
  • Search for your model (HP Color Laser MFP 178nw) and check for firmware updates.
  • Download and install any available updates.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

Reinstalling or updating the printer drivers might also resolve the issue:

  • Uninstall the current printer software from your computer.
  • Download the latest drivers from HP’s website for your operating system.
  • Reinstall the printer and try copying again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
