My LaserJet M234sdw printer can only print one page and then won't print. Have to turn off and on to get print again. Then same issue happened again. I tried to use direct print instead of spooler printing, but can't change it under "printer property". How to resolve this problem?

Hi @vicli
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your LaserJet M234sdw is encountering a persistent issue with printing jobs. This could be related to printer settings, driver conflicts, or communication glitches.
Let’s work through some solutions to resolve it:
1. Change Printing Mode (Spooling vs. Direct Print)
If you’re unable to modify the "Spooler Printing" setting in the Printer Properties, try the following steps:
Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
Locate Print Spooler in the list, right-click it, and select Restart.
Open the Printer Properties again and attempt to set the printer to "Print Directly to the Printer."
If this still doesn’t work:
Run the printer as an administrator by right-clicking on the printer icon and selecting Run as Administrator, then retry changing the setting.
2. Clear and Reset the Print Spooler
Sometimes, the spooler itself can create bottlenecks:
Stop the Print Spooler service:
Open services.msc as above, find Print Spooler, right-click, and select Stop.
Clear the Spooler files:
Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files in this folder (you may need administrative permissions).
Restart the Print Spooler:
Return to services.msc, right-click Print Spooler, and select Start.
3. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers
Outdated or incompatible drivers can lead to repeated printing issues:
Go to the HP Support website Official HP® Drivers and Software Download | HP® Support and search for your LaserJet M234sdw model.
Download and install the latest drivers and firmware for your printer.
Uninstall the current driver before installing the updated version:
Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click Remove Device.
Reinstall the printer and driver afterward.
4. Test the Printer with a Different Device
Use another computer or smartphone to print to the M234sdw.
If the issue doesn’t occur on the second device, the problem may lie with your original computer or its software.
5. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings
If the issue persists, perform a full reset:
On the printer's control panel, navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
Confirm the reset and reconfigure your printer, including reconnecting to Wi-Fi and reinstalling drivers.
6. Firmware Update:
HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.

Thank you Hawks_Eye, I tried Method 1, I still couldn't change property to "Print Directly" . Tried Method 2, the directory is empty. For Method 3, I tried before but didn't work. Then I tried Method 4 with another notebook computer, and it prints directly without interruption. I think the problem lies with my computer or its software then. The printer was working with no printing queue problem for a year or so since I bought it. I don't know why it started having this problem now with my computer. Thank you for your clear and detailed instruction and explanations! That is very helpful!
