Hello! I have a HP Officejet Pro 8610. It hasn’t been used in a while and when I turn it on I’m getting this message…

”There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP.”

I completed the instructions and it’s still saying the same thing. Anyone know what this may mean? Thank you!

Hi @Jesus-loves_u

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP Officejet Pro 8610 is displaying the message about a printer or ink system issue, here are some troubleshooting steps to address the problem:

1. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • This can help clear temporary errors.

2. Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Remove all ink cartridges and inspect them for damage or leaks.
  • Clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly and ensure they click into place.

3. Clean the Printhead

  • Open the printer and locate the printhead.
  • Remove the printhead and clean it gently with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
  • Reinstall the printhead and cartridges, then restart the printer.

4. Update Printer Firmware

5. Run a Diagnostic Test

  • Access the printer’s settings menu and look for a diagnostic or maintenance option.
  • Run a printhead cleaning or alignment test to see if it resolves the issue.

Let me know how these steps work for you or if you need additional guidance! 😊
