HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer

I was subscribed to instaInk, but I don't print much anymore and have spent way more money than the ink I have received is worth, or costs.  My card that they charged had to be changed due to fraud, so I didn't update the card info as I don't need to pay any more money for ink I won't be able to use.  My printer now states that soon I won't be able to print.  No explanation as to why or how it will be disabled, but there should be no way for HP to disable my printer just because I am not paying them anymore.

Does anyone here know why I am getting that message and is it for real that HP can disable my printing ability?

Welcome to the HP English Community --

The reason is not vindictive -- it is the way the Instant Ink service and contract are structured.

Yes, it is "for real".

What?

Instant Ink is a legal contract for service -

When you breach the contract -- in this case, by not paying for the service -- the contract is terminated by HP for non-payment.

After the contract is terminated -- and regardless of how or why that comes about -- all Instant Ink / Subscription cartridges stop working.

What?

You never owned the Instant Ink / Subscription cartridges.

All Instant Ink cartridges, including those cartridges activated as part of the service and all Instant Ink / Subscription cartridges sent to you while the contract is active, stop working after the contract is ended.

Instant Ink cartridges can (should) be returned to HP -- the service is free.

Purchase a new set of HP Ink cartridges and install the cartridges into the printer.
