HP Laser M611

We've created a simplified version of the problem to try and eliminate our application as a problem.

We are trying to print 50 copies of a pdf file containing some simple text onto 5x7in on one printer and 5.5x9in on another printer.

The one pdf page size is set to 5x7in, portrait and the printer settings match.

The other pdf page size is set to 5.5x9in, portrait and the printer settings match.

Both print jobs start off printing at 3.5/4 sec per page and it continuously slows down to 6.5 / 7 secs per page and finally is at about 8/9 secs per page.

I have to get a batch of 100 pages to print in 3.6 secs per page or less, to be complete within 6 minutes.
In both these printers, if I replace the paper with full size paper, I don't modify the size on the pdf file or the printers, no slow down occurs at all, and every page prints in under a sec.

Why is this slow down occurring for these different page sizes and how do I resolve it?
