I upgraded to windows 11 and I was getting spotty printing so I cleaned the cartridges and aligned the printhead.  No change in results.  I was mid way on ink so I thought I would try a new cartridge.  Now there is no ink dispersed when you try to print.  Put the old cartridge in and I get spotty printing.  Any thoughts?

Hi @sprigmore,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already taken some troubleshooting steps, but let's see if we can narrow down the issue further.

Here are some additional steps you can try:

  • Check Ink Levels: Make sure the new ink cartridge is properly installed and has sufficient ink. You can check the ink levels through the printer software or on the printer's display panel if available.
  • Reinstall Cartridges: Remove the new cartridge and reinstall it carefully, ensuring it is properly seated in the cartridge slot.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes, ink residue or dust can accumulate on the cartridge contacts, preventing proper communication with the printer. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the contacts on both the cartridge and the printer.
  • Printer Reset: Try resetting the printer by turning it off, unplugging it from the power source, waiting for a few minutes, and then plugging it back in and turning it on again. This can sometimes resolve communication issues between the printer and the new cartridge.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your Windows 11 system. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website specific to your printer model. Software and Drivers for HP ENVY 7643 e-All-in-One Printer
  • Printer Maintenance: Perform a deeper cleaning of the printer heads and nozzles. Most printers have a maintenance or cleaning function accessible through the printer's control panel or software. Running this function can help clear any clogs in the print head.
  • Test Print: Try printing a test page or running a printer diagnostic to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to certain documents or if it's a broader issue with the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
